Aspect of your Conservatory - East vs West
23 May 2011In this final article relating to the positioning of your Do-It-Yourself conservatory, we look at the pros and cons of East and West facing conservatories.
East Facing Conservatories
If you like to enjoy breakfast or read a newspaper in the morning sunshine, an East facing conservatory is perfect for you. The only thing you will need to rely on is the sun to come out! East facing conservatories therefore do not get the sunshine in the afternoon. Similar to a North facing conservatory, and especially due to those cold easterly winds, you will need to ensure that the room is well insulated, double glazed and a reliable heating system installed. A dwarf wall can also help reduce the amount of heat that escapes in comparison to a full height (glass) conservatory wall.
West Facing Conservatories
In complete contrast to an East facing conservatory, the West facing conservatory does not get any morning sunshine and therefore a good heating system would be required for morning use. However, a West Facing conservatory would appeal to those that like to come home from work to enjoy the late afternoon sunshine. East facing conservatories benefit from the afternoon sunshine and as with a South facing conservatory, they can become very warm and therefore also require good ventilation via roof vents, windows and doors. Solar blinds could also come in handy.
